Our office permits our clients to have a organized, public protests on public property near the defendant's business location or other appropriate locations. These protests are handled through Raising Consciousness Media Company, Inc., a Berkeley-based collective of local attorneys, activists and artists who raise consciousness about recently filed civil rights lawsuits.
In accordance with local municipal codes, ordinances, state and federal laws, the protest participants exercise their first amendment rights to freedom of expression and speech by conducting public silent protests on behalf of plaintiffs in recently filed lawsuits. The creative signs, clothing, pamphlets about the lawsuit's allegations and other techniques gets the attention of the local community regarding a matter of public concern while empowering the plaintiff personally with regard to the allegations. The protests usually begin with a director and 2, 4, 10, 25, or 50 silent individuals with signs about the allegations, flyers about the allegations and pamphlets about the allegationson public property at the defendant's residence, place of business or other appropriate location repeatedly and strictly in accordance with legal requirements after careful research and advice of our in-house counsel. RCMC raises consciousness about recent civil rights matters affecting the public through a variety of media, including a monthly newsletter, staging public artistic protests, and distributing pamphlets and flyers about recently filed lawsuits and administrative processes. RCMC also conducts community art projects, installations, classes and demonstrations related to the lawsuits as a form of artistic expression for social justice.
